Scarface tells the story of Tony Montana, a Cuban immigrant who arrives in Miami during the Mariel boatlift in 1980. Ambitious and determined to gain power and wealth, Tony begins by working for criminal organizations. Over time, he rises rapidly through the ranks of the drug trade thanks to his audacity and lack of scruples. He amasses a huge fortune, marries Elvira Hancock, and builds a criminal empire. However, his greed, paranoia, and violent temper begin to destroy his personal and professional relationships. As he gains more power, he also makes more enemies. His inability to control his impulses and his obsession with maintaining control lead to his inevitable downfall. The film culminates in a final showdown that symbolizes the consequences of unchecked ambition and a life of crime. The film was directed by Brian De Palma and stars Al Pacino. Over time it became a cult film, famous for its portrayal of the rise and fall of a drug lord and for several of its iconic lines.
